Are you bold enough to wear yellow? Pantone Illumininating yellow is the color of the year 2021! Not everyone looks great in yellow but if you pair it with one of your favorite colors, you can have a fresh new look for this spring or summer! Try small pops of color with accessories like shoes, a bag, or earrings. You can find unique handmade earrings in yellow at my shop on Etsy, BluKatDesign. Dia De Los Muertos
Colorful shop at the Pike Place Market, Seattle
I have always loved the colorful and festive Day of the Dead Celebration even up here in Seattle. I remember as a kid seeing fun dolls with skulls at thePike Place Market. I even had a Day of the Dead Christmas tree complete with tin skeletons! I enjoy making vibrant jewelry featuring howlite “sugar”skulls with colorful aluminum chain tassels. My fun and funky one-of-a-kind long tassel necklaces are made with upcycled glass knobs or buttons. I also make lightweight tassel earrings and hair sticks with the colorful skulls:

THE One Must-Have Accessory for This Fall: The Long Necklace
The long necklace is the one must-have accessory for fall! I love making these upcycled, one-of-a-kind long necklaces made from wood or glass knobs and a few with buttons! Some are tassel necklaces and others have charms or antique keys. Long necklaces are great over a fall or winter sweater, or I like to wear mine with a cardigan. Abby from The Vintage Inspired Passionista Blog layers hers with a shorter necklace to make a totally unique statement:

DIY Upcycled Jewelry: Simple Cuff Bracelet From a Brooch
DIY simple cuff bracelet made from a brooch. I love quick and easy projects! All you need is some wide elastic, mine is 1 1/4″, you can find it in all sorts of great colors now but I had some black, and a brooch:
Simply wrap the elastic firmly around your wrist and overlap about 1″ and cut. ( it will stretch and the weight of the brooch will make it flop around more so you want it tighter than you think!) You can hand sew it but I did a zig zag back and forth several times with my machine on both ends:
Trim all of the threads, I pinned my brooch over the seams so they didn’t show. You may want to stitch the brooch down in a couple spots if necessary. For the clasp, I like to use a dab of rubber cement to hold it closed more securely, later you can somewhat easily remove the cement if you want to use the brooch again. I am not a bracelet person but this may be cute for a special occasion, it reminds me of Christmas! These would be great for proms too!

I love to make upcycled necklaces and earrings also, be sure to check out my Etsy store, BluKatDesign and see my latest upcycled vintage brooch necklace:
One of my favorite things to do is to take an everyday object like a bobby pin, glass knob or safety pin and create unique jewelry that is stylish fun to wear! Safety pins are super fun to use to create various styles of jewelry. This statement necklace is made with steel safety pins, faux chainmaille and sparkly crystals; it can be worn with jeans and a t-shirt or with your little black dress for an evening out:

Here is an edgier modern necklace (click on photos to take you to see more in my Etsy store) but still very elegant with gray pearls, I carefully arrange the safety pins in a manner so they look random but artistic :

Here I combined colorful chain, vintage chain, light green and lavender crystals with safety pins for a totally unique statement necklace and below that is a cool gunmetal and rhinestone multi-chain statement necklace with large lobster claw clasps used in a unique way:

I love collecting cool beads especially interesting vintage beads to make dangling earrings. The Vintage Inspired Passionista above is wearing retro style baubles with vintage black Baroque beads and gunmetal chain. These beads have a fabulous, colorful iridescent sheen and are some my favorites. None of my unique handmade earrings are mass produced and since they are made from rare beads, they are limited in quantity so you shouldn’t see anyone else wearing them! That also means if you see something you like, you better get it while you can!

Statement earrings are hot for 2015, from tassel earrings to asymmetrical earrings, the bigger the earring, the better! Since I have sensitive ears, most of my earrings are lightweight and comfortable to wear. For super sensitive ears I can change most ear wires to surgical steel. I hand paint lightweight filigree discs for a splash of color above. Lightweight wood discs or beads are used in a lot of my earrings as in these larger bold animal print earrings :
